18-24 November [WHO] World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week

  • THEME : Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.
  • WAAW is mandated by the World Health Assembly and is commemorated annually from 18 to 24 November.
  • Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial agents.
  • As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents become ineffective and infections become difficult or impossible to treat, increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.

  • WHO Formation: 1948

  • First Antibiotic discovered: Penicillin (Alexander Fleming, 1928)

  • India’s National AMR Action Plan launched: 2017

  • Major AMR Threats: MRSA, Tuberculosis, Malaria, E. coli

  • WAAW ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸਿਹਤ ਅਸੈਂਬਲੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ 18 ਤੋਂ 24 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਤੱਕ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
  • ਐਂਟੀਮਾਈਕ੍ਰੋਬਾਇਲ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਰੋਧ (AMR) ਉਦੋਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਬੈਕਟੀਰੀਆ, ਵਾਇਰਸ, ਫੰਜਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਜੀਵੀ ਹੁਣ ਐਂਟੀਮਾਈਕ੍ਰੋਬਾਇਲ ਏਜੰਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ।
  • ਡਰੱਗ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਰੋਧ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ, ਐਂਟੀਬਾਇਓਟਿਕਸ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਐਂਟੀਮਾਈਕ੍ਰੋਬਾਇਲ ਏਜੰਟ ਬੇਅਸਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰਨਾ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਜਾਂ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਫੈਲਣ, ਗੰਭੀਰ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਜੋਖਮ ਵਧਦਾ ਹੈ.
