• The Indian Navy commissioned INS Mahe, its first anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW-SWC) with over 80 per cent indigenous parts, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
• The earlier INS Mahe, a Soviet-built coastal minesweeper that entered service in 1983, was decommissioned in 2006 after 23 years of service.
• The ship is named after Mahe, a serene coastal enclave on the Malabar coast that forms part of the Union Territory of Puducherry.
• INS Mahe will operate as a “silent hunter” on the western seaboard. The ship’s construction at the Cochin Shipyard.
• ਭਾਰਤੀ ਜਲ ਸੈਨਾ ਨੇ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਦੇ ਨੇਵਲ ਡੌਕਯਾਰਡ ਵਿਖੇ 80 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਵਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਣਡੁੱਬੀ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਜੰਗੀ ਜਹਾਜ਼ (ASW-SWC) INS ਮਾਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
• ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਾ INS ਮਾਹੇ, ਇੱਕ ਸੋਵੀਅਤ-ਨਿਰਮਿਤ ਤੱਟਵਰਤੀ ਮਾਈਨਸਵੀਪਰ ਜੋ 1983 ਵਿੱਚ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਨੂੰ 23 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ 2006 ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
• ਇਸ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਾਹੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਮਾਲਾਬਾਰ ਤੱਟ 'ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਤੱਟਵਰਤੀ ਐਨਕਲੇਵ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਪੁਡੂਚੇਰੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ।
• INS ਮਾਹੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਤੱਟ 'ਤੇ ਇੱਕ "ਚੁੱਪ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ" ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਕੋਚੀਨ ਸ਼ਿਪਯਾਰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ।
