According to a recent report by the NGO network Just Rights for Children (JRC), child marriages in India have decreased by 69% among girls and 72% among boys.
The report, titled Tipping Point to Zero: Evidence Towards a Child Marriage Free India, covers the last three years and was released during a side event at the UN General Assembly in September 2025.
The report credits strong legal deterrents, such as arrests and First Information Reports (FIRs), as a major factor.
Awareness of the government's "Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat Campaign" reached 99% of survey respondents, primarily through the work of NGOs, schools, and local village councils (Panchayats).
