  • The UGC recently mandated that all foreign nationals studying in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and universities in the country have to register themselves in a new Study In India (SII) portal.
  • It is a flagship project of the Ministry of Education.
  • Upon registration, the portal generates a unique ID or ‘SII-ID’, which must be quoted on the student visa application.

  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the 'Swachh Shehar Jodi' initiative in 2025 as a mentorship and collaboration program for urban waste management.
  • It is a time-bound, 100-day pilot program under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U).
  • The initiative's main objective is to promote peer learning and improve sanitation outcomes in urban areas.
  • It is designed to ensure that lower-performing cities benefit from the experience of cities with a track record of sanitation excellence.
  • Mentor cities: High-performing cities that have demonstrated exceptional results in sanitation and waste management. In 2025, 72 such cities were selected.
  • Mentee cities: Roughly 200 lower-ranked cities that will receive guidance and support.

  •  Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that this find is a significant milestone for India's energy security and exploration ambitions.
  • The discovery was made by Oil India Limited (OIL) in the Sri Vijayapuram-2 well, marking the first confirmed hydrocarbon occurrence in the Andaman shallow offshore block.
  • This discovery confirms the potential of the Andaman basin, which is part of a larger hydrocarbon-rich belt extending from Myanmar to Indonesia.
  • The well was drilled in a water depth of 295 meters to a target depth of 2,650 meters.
