WMO predicted the re-emergence of 'La Niña' in 2025 / ਡਬਲਿਊਐੱਮਓ ਨੇ 2025 ਵਿੱਚ 'ਲਾ ਨੀਨਾ' ਦੇ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਉਭਰਨ ਦੀ ਭਵਿੱਖਬਾਣੀ ਕੀਤੀ

  • The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has predicted a 60% chance of a La Niña re-emergence between October and December 2025.
  • La Niña is the cooling phase of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle, which occurs when ocean surface temperatures in the eastern and central Pacific Ocean become unusually cold.
  • This cooling phenomenon is returning after ENSO-neutral conditions prevailed since March 2025.

  •   IMPACT ON INDIA

    1.Strengthened monsoon: La Niña generally leads to a more robust southwest monsoon, bringing normal or above-normal rainfall, which benefits agriculture.

    2.Kharif crop benefits: Increased monsoon rainfall can replenish rivers, lakes, and groundwater, benefiting Kharif (summer) crops like rice, maize, and pulses

    3.Flood risk: Excessive or uneven rainfall could increase the risk of floods and waterlogging in low-lying regions.

    4.Harsher winters: La Niña often leads to colder-than-normal winter temperatures in India.

At 102, Kokichi Akuzawa Becomes Oldest to Climb Mount Fuji

  • Kokichi Akuzawa has become the oldest person to climb to the top of Mount Fuji at the age of 102.
  • His achievement has been recognised by Guinness World Records.
  • Mount Fuji, also called Fuji-san, is Japan’s tallest mountain, with a height of 3,776 meters.

Telangana wins national award for maximum number of organ donations in the country

  • Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda presented the award to representatives of Telangana’s Jeevandan programme in New Delhi.
  •  As per the Union Health Ministry, Telangana reported a significantly higher rate of 4.88 organ donations per 10 lakh population during 2024, while the national average stood at 0.8 per 10 lakh population.
  • In 2024, Telangana collected organs from 188 brain-dead donors and successfully performed 725 organ transplant surgeries.
  •  In recognition of this achievement, the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) presented this award to Telangana.
  • Furthermore, organ transplant surgeries in Telangana are being provided free of cost under the Arogyasri scheme.

Operation Akhal

  • Operation Akhal, a joint anti-terror operation inAkhal Khulsan forest area in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, entered its third day, with at least one terrorist killed amid continued firefight by Indian security forces.
  • Launched by: Jointly conducted by the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).

Sarnath nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status

  • India has submitted this year a dossier titled 'Ancient Buddhist Site, Sarnath' to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre for the 2025-26 nomination cycle.
  • Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said this in a written response to a query in Lok Sabha on 04 August 2025.
  • Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh contains a stupa (shrine) called the Dhamek Stupa, which marks the place where the Buddha first taught.
  • Sarnath is also where Ashoka, a 3rd-century-bce Mauryan emperor, erected a memorial pillar topped with a capital consisting of four lions. This capital, known as the Lion Capital of Ashoka, is the basis for the state emblem of India.

Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi Inaugurates ‘Agnishodh’ Research Cell at IIT Madras /

  • The Indian Army has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras to establish ‘Agnishodh’ , the Indian Army Research Cell (IARC) on the IIT Madras campus. ▪

UN Passes Resolution Urging Taliban to Respect Women’s Rights / ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਨੇ ਤਾਲਿਬਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਤਾ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ

  • United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling on the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan to end their oppression of women and girls and to fight terrorist groups in the country.
  • The vote passed with 116 countries in favor, while the United States and Israel voted against, and 12 countries, including India, China, Russia, and Iran, abstained.
  • This resolution is important because it reflects growing global concern over the worsening human rights situation in Afghanistan.
  • The 11-page resolution urges the Taliban to reverse their harsh policies, especially those affecting women and girls, such as bans on education beyond sixth grade and restrictions on movement.
  • It also calls for the elimination of all terrorist organizations operating in Afghanistan, including al-Qaida and Islamic State groups.
  • ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਮਹਾਸਭਾ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਮਤਾ ਪਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਫਗਾਨਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੇ ਤਾਲਿਬਾਨ ਸ਼ਾਸਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਅੱਤਿਆਚਾਰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
  • ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ 'ਚ 116 ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੋਟ ਿੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਦਕਿ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ 'ਚ ਵੋਟ ਿੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ, ਚੀਨ, ਰੂਸ ਅਤੇ ਈਰਾਨ ਸਮੇਤ 12 ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੋਟਿੰਗ 'ਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ।
  • ਇਹ ਮਤਾ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਅਫਗਾਨਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਗੜਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੱਧ ਰਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਵਿਆਪੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
  • 11 ਪੰਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਲਿਬਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਖਤ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਵੇ, ਖ਼ਾਸਕਰ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਛੇਵੀਂ ਜਮਾਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ 'ਤੇ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਵਾਜਾਈ 'ਤੇ ਪਾਬੰਦੀਆਂ।
  • ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਲ-ਕਾਇਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਲਾਮਿਕ ਸਟੇਟ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਅਫਗਾਨਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਸੰਗਠਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਾਤਮੇ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
